Most of our spices — cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, clove, and nutmeg — come from Red Ape Cinnamon, who publishes per-lot heavy-metal test results publicly. Black tea and black pepper are sourced separately. Some chai blends are made from bulk spice sources with limited transparency. We chose a different path.

I run Café Meria in Charlevoix, Michigan—a tiny resort town on Lake Michigan. For years, our house chai was the thing people remembered. Not the pastries, not the coffee—the chai.
I tried to find them something. I really did. But every "clean" chai I found was either packed with sugar or tasted like cardboard. So I made it myself.
